TyranoBuilder: The New Visual Novel on the Block

A long, long time ago, I made a blogpost on TyranoScript:

So, fast-forward to a couple of years later, and it has evolved into TyranoBuilder, a fully-functional visual novel creation suite. Do check it out on the link below:

Testing Out New Service

I’m currently trying out a new service where I can help with requests to order doujins/games/others through websites such as DLSite Japan and DL.Getchu.com, which are notoriously hard to register  for gaijins due to the heavy amount of moonspeak. If you’re interested in getting something from these websites then do check out this link here:

TyranoScript and English Translation

TyranoScript is a visual novel engine that has high compatibility with KAG3 / KiriKiri2 games. Best of all, it runs with HTML5 and Javascript, meaning it will run on just about any device you can think of. (Android, iOS, Windows etc.)

Here’s the link to the official webpage:

And here’s the English translation:

A Neat Ren’Py GUI, and A Well-Hidden iOS Visual Novel

Revised is an upcoming GUI for the popular western visual novel engine, Ren’py. I managed to stumble upon it by accident, and the concept looks neat. Here’s hoping it bears fruit and gets completed~

http://jancoding.wordpress.com/revised/

I also found a really obscure visual novel in the iOS App Store. It has an English language available, and it’s only 99 cents. So… why not? 😀

About xclannad and iOS5 crashes

I noticed a lot of end-users tried out xclannad with their iOS 5 devices and experienced crashes. So I tried on my iPod Touch with firmware 5.

Turns out, it crashed on me too. =.=

Apologies to you guys, but I guess you need an older firmware (4 is recommended) to actually even run this thing. Newer firmware seems to have issues with this app.

Key Visual Novels on iOS (the hard way)

This is the more tedious method to install xclannad, but it allows for more customisation.

What you need:

1. xclannad
2. A Key visual novel already installed to your PC (e.g. Clannad)
3. A jailbroken iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch
4. i-FunBox (preferred method to transfer files from PC to iOS)
5. A terminal application on your iDevice or a SSH client (e.g. Putty)

How to install:

1 – Download and extract ‘xclannad for iPhoneOS 2.x.x JB (ARM) version 0.07hb low-mem’ and the app package file. The first file contains the xclannad executable, while the second file contains the Clannad.app package so that you can run the game from the Springboard menu.
In the folder where you extracted xclannad.app, open SDLAppParam.plist and edit the following line:

<string>/var/mobile/Media/xclannadGameDirectory</string>

to

<string>/var/mobile/Media/ons/clannad</string>

or wherever you would like to later place the Clannad game data. I would suggest placing it somewhere within the “/var/mobile” directory.
You can also rename the xclannad.app to whatever you want, i.e. Clannad.app. You would want to if the game you plan to install isn’t Clannad, i.e. for Tomoyo After you could use 智代アフター.app.

2 – Connect your iDevice to your PC. Via i-FunBox, and transfer the newly created .app folder to your iDevice’s “Applications” directory.

3 – Create a folder in “var/mobile/Media” and name it “ons”. Then create another folder in “ons” and name it “Clannad”.

4 – Transfer all these folders from the game you want to play into “var/mobile/Media/ons/Clannad”:

BGM
DAT
G00
GAN
MOV
SYS
WAV
KOE

5 – Transfer these files into the same directory as well:

seen.txt
GAMEEXE.INI
default.ttf (You can use any font but make sure to rename it to default.ttf)

6 – Right-click your “clannad” folder and go to “Properties”. Enter ‘0777’ into the ‘Octal’ field and select ‘Set group, owner and permissions recursively’.

7 – Copy Clannad.app and its contents to the “/Application” folder on your phone. Don’t forget to copy the xclannad executable from the first archive into the Clannad.app folder as well; then setting the permissions of Clannad.app to ‘0755’ recursively.

8 – Open the terminal app in your iPhone or connect via an SSH client such as PuTTY. To obtain your iPhone’s IP, go into iPhone Settings >Wi-Fi networks > your wireless network.

Type the following commands:

$ su

(enter alpine for the password)

root# apt-get install ldid
root# ldid -S /Applications/Clannad.app/xclannad
root# sysctl -w security.mac.proc_enforce=0 security.mac.vnode_enforce=0

Set root as the owner of Clannad.app:

root# chown -R root:admin /Applications/Clannad.app

9 – Now safely remove your iDevice from you PC, restart or respring it and start playing!

Key Visual Novels on iOS (the easy way)

What you need:

1.  xclannad (from http://cydia.myrepospace.com/snipelimited/)
2.  A Key visual novel already installed to your PC (e.g. Clannad)
3.  A jailbroken iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch
4.  i-FunBox (preferred method to transfer files from PC to iOS)
5. seen.txt, GAMEEXE.INI and default.tff

How to install:

1 – From your iDevice, Open Cydia and click on “Manage”

2 – Click on “Sources” and add this source: http://cydia.myrepospace.com/snipelimited

3 – Click on “Search”, find and install xClannad.

4 – Open i-FunBox on your PC and connect your iDevice to it.

5 – Create a folder in “var/mobile/Media” and name it “ons”. Then create another folder in “ons” and name it “clannad”.

6 – Transfer all these folders from the game you want to play into “var/mobile/Media/ons/clannad”:

BGM
DAT
G00
GAN
MOV
SYS
WAV
KOE

7 – Transfer these files into the same directory as well:

seen.txt
GAMEEXE.INI
default.ttf (You can use any font but make sure to rename it to default.ttf)

8 – Now safely remove your iDevice from your PC and start playing!

Notes: So far I’ve tried playing Clannad and Little Busters! and they run prefectly well on my iPhone 3G. Little Busters would cause an error during the baseball mini-game, though.

Notes 2: Another way to install xclannad is to download the .deb package from here. Open i-FunBox on your PC and connect your iDevice to it. Then copy the Clannad.deb file into the “Cydia App Install” folder. Once done, safely unplug your iDevice, reboot and respring it. After that, just continue from step 4 onwards as described above.
